Selsema Babi atau Babi Flu oleh Dr Rais

Oleh ANAK MAMI

 rais_yatim

Salary cut for GLC confirm! Government salary remains.

The 400,000 workers in government-linked companies (GLCs) have been forewarned to brace for a salary cut by September because of the economic downturn, MTUC vice-president Mustafa Maarof disclosed today.

This was conveyed to the unions when the management of these companies headed by Khazanah Nasional met the workers’ representatives recently.

Mustafa, who is also the executive secretary of the Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) Employees Union, told Bernama that the management also told them that “if the salary cut does not improve the companies” results, then they should expect to be subjected to either a mutual separation scheme (MSS) or voluntary separation scheme (VSS)”.

Besides MAS, 90 other companies are also categorised as GLCs, among them, Sime Darby, Tenaga Nasional, Telekom Malaysia, Felda, Felcra, Pos Malaysia and Bernas.

Almost 200,000 of the workers in these companies are former civil servants who opted for the new entities when their departments were privatised in the early 80’s and 90’s.

Mustafa said the GLCs should not use the economic downturn as a reason for their move to reduce their workforce.

“We understand that some of the companies are doing very well and their top executives are highly paid and enjoy excellent perks like large bonuses and entertainment allowance.

“What they intend to do is to retrench the middle and lower-level staff.
“But why should the general workers be penalised for the weakness in management?” he said.

Moreover, he added, the government had assured that as far as possible it would prevent job cuts and had allocated sufficient money under the second economic stimulus package.

Meanwhile, the president of the newly-formed Congress of Unions in GLCs Malaysia, Mohamed Shafie B.P. Mammal, said the workers would soon submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on their grouses, particularly the pension formulas and pensionable age and promotional opportunities.

According to him, almost 80 per cent of workers in the GLCs who were former civil servants were getting pensions of less than RM200 per month.

“We will be asking the government to increase the minimum pension to RM720 per month as being enjoyed by their counterparts in the civil service,” he said.

Mohamed Shafie said the other demands were to raise the pension age to 58 years, and to stop the frequent restructuring and reorganisation of GLCs and the frequent change of CEOs of the GLCs.

He said promotional opportunities were also much less for the workers because the management were bringing in new workers from outside and putting them in higher positions.

This, he pointed out, was detrimental to the morale and productivity of the workers. – Bernama

Anifah Aman food poisoning?

Anifah AmanKUALA LUMPUR, June 17  — Despite being down with food poisoning and warded at a hospital, Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman refused to allow his predicament deter him from attending his first formal dinner tonight — with heads of foreign missions.

Anifah, who was still being warded, said he had gotten permission from his doctor to be released from the hospital for a few hours to attend the dinner which he had described as important.

With plasters still on his left hand, he tried to look cheerful despite his paleness.

“I want to share something with all of your excellencies. I was warded at a hospital because of food poisoning. But because this function is important indeed for me, I’m not postponing at all,” he said at the dinner, which was orgininally scheduled for April but was postponed due to unforseen circumstances.

Anifah is expected to be discharged tomorrow. However, he had refused to reveal where he is warded.

Persempadanan Pilihanraya.

DUN baru Kota Belud – UMNO

DUN Luyang – MCA, Gerakan & LDP

Banyak kosong….

Saudi Arabia To Relax Woman Control?

image RIYADH 13/06/2009 – Saudi Arabia has pledged to take steps toward removing rules requiring a woman to have a male guardian at all times, saying there is no such legal requirement, a rights organisation said.

Saudi rights officials committed in a review with the UN Human Rights Council to take steps to end the male guardianship rule, to give women full legal identity and to ban discrimination by gender, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said in a statement from Geneva received on Saturday. HRW said that during the review, which took place in Geneva on June 10, Saudi officials said the Islamic sharia law concept of male guardianship does not exist in Saudi law. ‘Islam guarantees a woman’s right to conduct her affairs and enjoy her legal capacity,’ the Saudi officials said, according to HRW.

In Saudi Arabia much of life is governed by the strict Wahhabi branch of Islam, and law is heavily based on sharia, or Islamic law. Women are required to have male guardians to move in public, travel abroad, get married or even access many public services. They are also prevented from driving, making the country the only one in the world with such a restriction.

Many women, especially in the commercial sector, have been agitating to have such rules changed, but face tough resistance from hardline clerics who have powerful influence over the legal system. HRW said the Saudi officials also pledged to end the practice of executing people for crimes committed as juveniles, noting that Saudi Arabia is one of only five countries in the world that allow it.

The Saudis ’should now work to carry out these reforms rapidly,’ HRW said. On February 6, Saudi officials submitted their rights record to the scrutiny of the UN Human Rights Council for the first time, defending some of the religious concepts behind Saudi law but arguing that conditions were improving. — AFP

More discrimination for Non-Muslim Pig Breader from UMNO Sabah?

Flying PigAll pig farms must register

Papar: All illegal pig farms in Sabah must register and apply for licences before July 1, this year, or face the music.

Issuing the warning, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin said an order requiring them to apply for the licence was issued when the Control of Livestock Activities (Pig) Rules 2008,(Pig rules 007) was gazetted on Feb. 12 (digeset oleh penindas-babi)this year.

He said warning letters would be issued to operators of pig farms that fail to submit their applications to Dovsai

He said several meetings and briefings have been conducted with the Sabah Livestock Association and operators of pig farms to introduce the new provision and the development of the Pig Farming Area (PFA) in Telupid.

Yahya revealed that audit on all pig farms would begin on July 25 this year followed by meetings to process the applications for operating licences.

“Those operators or owners who fail to procure the licence due to not complying with the minimum requirement of ‘Good Husbandry Practices’ (GAHP) or other relevant legal requirements, will be enlisted into a group of farms that will be given consultancy services.
